OTOSCLEROSIS AND STAPES SURGERY
Otosclerosis is a disorder that causes hearing loss due to the ear’s inability to amplify sound. Stapedectomy is a surgical procedure of the middle ear performed in order to improve hearing. The results of this surgery in our Institute is a success rate of more than 98%. Our hospital probably performed the largest number of these operations in India today. More than 400 Stapedotomy surgeries are performed annually at our hospital.
EAR DISCHARGE AND TYMPANOMASTOID SURGERY
Mastoidectomy and tympanoplasty are surgical procedures of the middle ear performed in order to close a hole in the ear drum, remove the infection in the middle ear and mastoid bone and to improve hearing. The Vellore Ent Centre is the leading hospital in the surgical management of this condition called chronic suppurative otitis media. At our Institute, we excel in the treatment of this condition and successful results approach 100%! Procedures at our hospital also have a very small convalescing time allowing the patient to return home quickly after a successful operation
COCHLEAR IMPLANT SURGERY
The Vellore Ent Centre runs the largest cochlear implant program in India. An average of 250 implantations is done every year. The cochlear implant is a safe, medical device that replicates the function of the cochlea when it is damaged. In essence what it does is pick up sound with the aid of the microphones in the processor, which then sends it to the implant, which stimulates the auditory nerve directly sending signals to the brain.
The team at the Vellore Ent Centre Cochlear Implant Centre is a multi-disciplinary team comprised of surgeons, audiologists, speech pathologists, a social worker, a developmental pediatrician and a psychologist. We are dedicated to helping deaf children hear, particularly children with severe to profound sensorineural hearing loss. Once they have the gift of clear sound, these children can develop the ability to listen, to understand and to speak.
NOSE AND SINUS SURGERY
Functional endoscopic sinus surgery is a minimally invasive technique used to restore sinus ventilation and normal function. Rapid growth in this specialty along with the introduction of new technologies such as navigation, microdebrider and better medical management allows for better results in the treatment of sinus ailments at our Institute.
LARYNGOLOGY AND MICROLARYNGEAL SURGERY
Laryngology is a subspecialty that deals with the vocal apparatus of the human body or the larynx as it is commonly referred to. Typically the conditions that this branch of medicine deals with are HOARSENESS OF VOICE, FOREIGN BODIES IN THE UPPER AIRWAY, TUMOURS and CANCERS affecting the larynx, esophageal reflux and ASPIRATION problems.
We uses advanced equipments for examinations of the larynx and for precision surgeries of the vocal cord, uses CO2 lasers. Audiologists and rehabilitation experts are also available for assistance.
TONSILLECTOMY AND ADENOID SURGERIES
Tonsils and adenoids can cause health problems when they become infected or obstruct normal breathing or nasal/sinus drainage. At Vellore Ent Centre, we excel in the treatment of this condition by offering coblation tonsillectomy. Coblation is an advanced technology that combines gentle radiofrequency energy with natural saline — to quickly, and safely removes tonsils.
